The incumbent serves as a Nurse Practitioner in Occupational Health under the supervision of the Medical Director, Occupational Health and Director, Compensation & Pension/Occupational Health/Vesting. The position is located at the Jamaica Plain Campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System.
The incumbent is primarily responsible for providing Occupational Health services at the duty station assigned but may be required to perform clinical functions or provide consultations at other divisions and outpatient clinics within VABHS when assigned.

Rresponsible for maintaining professional, clinical, administrative, and interpersonal communication competencies associated with the position.
Conducts competent, comprehensive health and injury assessments of employees consistent with program policy and procedures and within the scope of authorized OH Services.
Performs pre-placement medical evaluations in a thorough and timely manner.
Evaluates employees who become ill at work, establishes diagnosis, provides initial treatment to enable the employee to remain at work and refers employee to their private healthcare provider for follow-up.
Provides comprehensive medical evaluation of employees who sustain injuries at work, orders appropriate diagnostic studies, establishes diagnosis, provides appropriate initial treatment and for employees who elect to be treated through OH, provides appropriate and consistent follow-up treatment throughout recovery.
Includes all required elements in documentation of injury evaluation and treatment of work related injuries for submission as medical evidence to the Department of Labor.
Documents all clinical encounters utilizing the electronic medical record in a thorough and timely manner using designated progress note templates.
Performs medical surveillance evaluations consistent with OSHA standards and program policy.
Follows up on new hires that may need Hepatitis B or other vaccinations.
Performs periodic examinations such as annual Police Officer and Boiler Plant Evaluations.
Participates in annual influenza vaccination campaign.
Incorporates clinical case management concepts when treating employees with work related injuries to facilitate return to work in a timely manner and full recovery of injury.
Establishes appropriate duty profiles on injured employees based on clinical assessment of work capacity and review of documentation received from outside providers.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 to 4:00pm
