The Occupational Health Nurse is assigned to Branch Health Clinic Bangor. This position is responsible for providing occupational health care to all medically eligible DoD civilian shipyard employees and all supported commands within the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard catchment area. The focus of this position is management of occupational health medical surveillance programs and provision of employee health services, patient and staff education, and professional nursing care delivery with a secondary focus on associated administrative duties and technical oversight of junior staff members. This position requires collaboration with other occupational health services to facilitate integration and implementation of the occupational health programs. This position manages programs independently and coordinates with other occupational health, preventive medicine, safety, industrial hygiene, NHB and shipyard management, and private medical professionals.

Independently determine the Occupational Health program requirements and implementation strategies .
Overall supervision and coordination of the Medical Surveillance Programs based on industrial hygiene, safety, and other professional inputs.
Conduct worksite visits to correlate work processes with medical surveillance.
Support health promotion through counseling of individuals and groups.
Assist the management of Occupational Health department budget, equipment, supplies and other resources.
Manage the Occupational Medicine Program Assessment.
Represent the Naval Hospital or Branch Medical Clinics at meetings.
Provide personnel management, supervision of all personnel assigned to the Occupational Health department.
Provide clinical occupational health nursing services in an independent environment.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Have successfully completed a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note - Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools).
Passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of professional nursing experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector; or have successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: recognizing or identifying harmful physical agents/potential health hazards/toxic chemicals and the effects; providing clinical nursing care and occupational health and safety nursing services to employees in relation to their occupations and working environments, and providing treatment and administering care for illnesses of occupational origin and injuries that occur at the workplace.
Possession of Occupational Health Nurse certification by the by the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses is desired, but not required.
