Physician on the Neurology team and is accountable for providing health care to outpatient and inpatient veterans in accordance with individual patient needs determined by standards of adult health care practice, hospital policy and procedures. This responsibly includes the collaboration with referring health care providers and knowledge in patient health and illness assessment, direct care, preventive health, and education of resident and fellow trainees, nurses, patients and families. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. The duties consist of but are not limited to the following: Provide the provision of neurologic evaluation and treatment of Veterans with compassion on both an inpatient and outpatient basis along with the education and counseling of Veterans and their families on medical conditions/treatments. Participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general Neurology program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.
