Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Advance Practice Nurse for the department of Radiation Oncology. The Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of nurse practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The Nurse Practice and the Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist Acts of the State of New Jersey define the scope of the position and adherence to the policies and Standard Operating Procedures set forth by the Cancer Institute of New Jersey at University Hospital.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Functions independently and/or as a member of interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for Radiation Oncology survivorship population.
Helps develop a vision and model for a cancer survivorship program in the department .
Works within a multidisciplinary unit that is designed to meet the needs of specialized cancer populations; i.e., disease- specific settings.
Expands patient assessment, triage, coordination and documentation of care to a specified group of adult patients older than 18 years of age. This includes care of adults at various developmental stages including geriatrics.
Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Recognizes normal and abnormal laboratory findings.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, Rutgers and University Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of a Masters’ Degree required.
Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority in the State of New Jersey.
Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with an Oncology Specialization required, if an Oncology Specialization is not present, the Oncology Specialization must be obtained within 2 years of employment.
At least two (2) years of nursing experience in the Oncology specialty area in a hospital or clinic setting, preferably in an Advanced Practice role.
Certifications/Licenses
Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority in the State of New Jersey.
Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with an Oncology Specialization required, if an Oncology Specialization is not present, the Oncology Specialization must be obtained within 2 years of employment.
BLS, CDS and DEA Licenses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
American Heart Association: Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Experience with electronic medical is required

Previous experience in radiation oncology
Brachytherapy experience
Experience with Epic and Aria systems
Previous experience in radiation oncology
Previous experience working with oncology patients
